About the Marv Bossart Foundation for
The Marv Bossart Foundation for Parkinson’s Support was established in April 2013 by the Marv Bossart family to increase community knowledge, understanding and support of those affected by Parkinson’s disease, through partnerships with programs in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas.
There are over 3,000 people in the Fargo-Moorhead area living with Parkinson’s disease. By donating to the Marv Bossart Foundation you will be helping to provide a specialized walker to a Parkinson’s patient, fund programming that helps ease the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and give patients and caregivers information about new developments in Parkinson’s treatment and care.
The Marv Bossart Foundation for Parkinson’s Support is a project of Dakota Medical Foundation and is not separately incorporated. DMF oversees the accounting and administration of the project so its committed leaders can focus on people, not paperwork.
About Marv Bossart:
Marv Bossart anchored the evening news at WDAY for 42 years and became the most familiar voice in the history of the Red River Valley broadcast region. He taught a generation of news reporters as a writing and introductory journalism instructor at Minnesota State University Moorhead for 37 years. He was a mentor to aspiring journalists and had a keen appreciation for gifted writers who, in particular, he would nurture to rise through the television news ranks. Marv had a buoyant nature, an inviting warmth and sparkling humor that were as legendary as the large public persona that he carried with humble demeanor. Marv was diagnosed with Parkinson’s a year after his retirement. He made his illness public to endorse the importance of exercise and physical and speech therapy programs. His family was at his side during his courageous battle and they came forward to develop a local Parkinson’s foundation that honors his legacy and makes a difference in the lives of others who live with the effects of the illness.
